A Babolat Tennis Bag… Perfect for a Road Trip

download

My husband and my dog snuggled in the backseat.

Road trips are always an adventure; you start out with a plan but there are always some detours along the way. This Christmas, my husband, my brother-in-law and I decided to go to Texas to visit their side of the family. Rather than paying the high plane ticket prices that come with flying in the holiday season, we decided to rent a car and drive to Austin, Texas and, of course, we made a few stops along the way.

The first problem we ran into, however, was the size of the rental car. We thought the mid-size would be big enough to fit the three of us, our 85 pound Labrador retriever, our luggage and all the presents for the family. The mid-size, although great for gas mileage, was a tight squeeze. We had to leave some of our stuff behind but thanks to my Babolat tennis bag, I was able to take all of necessities along with me. I was able to fit 2 pairs of shoes, my makeup bag, toiletries, jacket, sweatshirt, gloves, hair straightener (because I never travel without it) and my tennis racquet, just in case I needed to teach the in-laws a thing or two about how to win a match. I even managed a few snacks, a jug of water and small bag of dog food for Dakota.

Our foggy view of the snowy Grand Canyon.

We started off leaving our home in San Diego, California at midnight and decided to go four hours out of the way to the Grand Canyon. When we got there, although it was a beautiful site, there was too much fog to see very far down. Disappointed and frustrated that we added all that time on to our already 20 hour drive, we continued on our journey.

After another 6 hours of driving we stopped at a small town called Springerville in Arizona to stay overnight at my step-grandma`s house. The next morning we continued on our way to Carlsbad, New Mexico and stopped to hike through the Carlsbad Caverns, 750 feet underground.

I was thankful to have my Babolat bag with me because I needed something that I could carry like a backpack during the hike. I packed water bottles for all three of us, my camera and our sweatshirts because when you are that far underground, it gets pretty chilly!ut of the way to the Grand Canyon. When we got there, although it was a beautiful site, there was too much fog to see very far down. Disappointed and frustrated that we added all that time on to our already 20 hour drive, we continued on our journey.

After our hike through the caverns we were on the road again. Another 10 hours to Austin, Texas, our final destination. We arrived at my in-laws house around 1 am. The next morning we got up and explored the town, again, thankful that I brought my tennis bag with me as we walked everywhere from the capital building to a small café probably about a mile away.

Overall, the road trip was exciting and full of adventure; although, I have to say I am not looking forward to the 20 hour drive home but at least I will have my trusty bag to keep all my belongings safe and organized for the long trip back.

My New Year`s Resolution: To Follow Through with my New Year`s Resolutions

New Year's ResolutionsI have never really been a person to set New Year`s resolutions because I feel it is something that everybody does with full intention of keeping them yet they are typically forgotten by February of the New Year. Gym memberships sky rocket and work out accessories like expensive Lululemon Yoga pants and tennis bags for girls fly off the shelves just to be put in that drawer that you put things in that you never use but you don`t have the heart to get rid of. Sales of stop smoking aides increase but as soon as you miss your aerobics class a few times or buy just one more pack of cigarettes, those resolutions quickly become failed attempts of self-improvement.

I have been recently thinking about ways to make my New Year`s resolutions actual  solutions. How do I lose that extra weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle for longer than a few weeks? How do I actually save money rather than just throwing some extra cash in an envelope and then borrowing from the envelope whenever I need a five dollar bill and promising to pay it back when I know that’s never going to happen? How do I start to travel more when my resolution to save money failed miserably?

My other issue with New Year`s resolutions is that I feel like it`s an excuse for people to do whatever they want in the current year and feel okay about it because they have sworn to change in the year to come. “Oh yeah I smoke, but I`m quitting on  January 1st!” “Sure I can have some pizza, after all, I start my strict diet on New Year`s, I might as well enjoy it while I can.” To me, it is a crutch.

I thought to myself that really, the reason I don`t set resolutions is because I don`t have enough faith in myself to follow through with them. So rather than fail, I just don`t try. The thought upset me because in my opinion, failing and not trying are one in the same. But how do I stick to my goals? Will my new tennis bag and expensive Yoga pants give me more motivation? Will opening an actual savings account rather than the empty envelope hidden under my bed actually help me save money? I don`t know the answer but this year, I am at least going to try and if I fail, hey– there`s always next year! LOL!

An Inspiring Story: Wounded U.S. Solider Serves as Ballperson at U.S. Open

Ryan McIntosh, a member of the US Army, is doing more with one tennis shoe than most of us could dream of.

I have always had mixed feelings about war but no matter what war we are fighting, I have always supported the US Military. The men and women who sacrifice their lives for my freedom are people I look up to; people who do what I would never have the courage to.

Ryan McIntosh lost his leg in December of 2010 in Afghanistan when he stepped on a land mine but has come a long way in his fight for normalcy and is now a US Open ballperson.

McIntosh is part of the U.S. Tennis Association`s initiative to reach out the members of the U.S. military and show them all the benefits the sport has to offer—both mental and physical.

“My big picture is just to honor those guys who have been injured just like I was and say, ‘You guys can still do anything you want, ` ” McIntosh told SunHerald.com. Although his goal is to reach out to those in similar situations as himself, he wants to remain unnoticed to the rest of the world. “I’m just a ballperson when I’m here,” he said. “It’s the same when I’m in the Army. I’m just a specialist. I’m not anything special. I don’t consider myself a wounded warrior. When I have my uniform on, you cannot tell. And that’s kind of my biggest goal here, too.”

Even more amazing is the fact that McIntosh`s son was born just shy over four months after his accident which was his main inspiration to get back up. “When I was growing up, my dad was always my coach, always right by my side. That’s what I want to do with my son,” McIntosh said.

A part of me wants to look at the sadness of the situation but after reading his story and seeing his positivity, I can`t help but smile.

An Odd Item in Djokovic`s Tennis Bag

At the 2012 Wimbledon tournament, Novak Djokovic pulled an unsuspecting item out of his athletic bag…. What was it? A golf club!

Spectators were wondering why one of the world`s top ranked tennis players was carrying a golf club… Was he confused? Maybe he`s thinking about taking up a new hobby.

No he wasn`t confused and he isn`t retiring his tennis racquet… it was merely a publicity stunt to show off Head tennis company`s  new upright golf/tennis crossover sports bag.

“My sponsor provided me with a junior golf club,” Djokovic said after the match. “The racquet bags look like golf clubs. […] Fans corrected me straight away, saying ‘this is not a golf club’. We were trying to come up with something different.”

The publicity stunt was well thought out by the tennis company. They showcased
their new bag by getting the audience`s attention.

When I first saw the bag I thought that it`s not a bad idea by Head. Many people who play tennis also enjoy golf so why not make a bag that you can take from the tennis court to the putting green?

However, that wasn`t Head`s intention. According to the company website, the new White LTD Edition  was intended specifically for tennis.

“The new white HEAD bag echoes the design and functionality found in golf bags. The white racquet carrier comes with a simple fold-out stand system which allows the stylish piece of kit to remain upright for easy access; when not in use, the unique stand system folds neatly out of the way.”

Although Head may have not  designed the bag for a golfer, it would still work for those who enjoy both of the sports and “hats off” to the marketing team at the Head tennis company for coming up with such a good marketing tactic!

Rafael Nadal: Babolat Tennis Bags and Shakira

You will typically see Rafael Nadal looking good on the tennis court dressed in his Nike clothes and shoes with one of his Babolat tennis bags hanging on his shoulder; however, Rafael Nadal not only looks good during his matches with his aggressive style, but off the court as well.

When Rafael Nadal was younger he was actually a very promising soccer player. He was trained by one of his uncles until another uncle, Toni Nadal, a former tennis pro, recognized his skill as a tennis player. Not wanting his academic career to suffer, Rafael`s father made him choose between the two sports; the choice for Nadal was obvious.

In addition to being blessed with tremendous athletic ability, Nadal is blessed with the face and the body of a model. In2011,  “Rafa” replaced Cristiano Ronaldo as the new face of Armani Underwear and Jeans; the first tennis player ever endorsed by the brand who called Nadal “… ideal as he represents a healthy and positive model for youngsters.”

Even as a dancing Claymation figure, Nadal keeps his sexy appeal! As a global ambassador for Kia Motors, Nadal appeared in a comedic Kia commercial as himself but in clay form in a tournament against what appeared to be an alien.

What was most shocking to me was Nadal`s appearance is a music video. Shakira, a popular Colombian singer-songwriter, chose Rafael Nadal to appear as her love interest in the video for her song “Gypsy.” Shakira said that she chose the tennis pro because she felt as though he was someone she had a connection with. “I thought that maybe I needed someone I could in some way identify with. And Rafael Nadal is a person who has been totally committed to his career since he was very young. Since he was 17, I believe.”

As you can see, Rafael Nadal or “the king of clay” as he is sometimes called, is more than just a tennis player. We typically see him in his usual attire with his racquet, headband, Nike clothes and his signature Babolat tennis bag, but the soccer player turned tennis pro has taken his natural athletic ability and striking good looks to become a global sensation.

UK Tennis Club Welcomes New Member: A Tennis Ball Machine

The Masham Tennis Club in the UK welcomed a new member to the team; a brand new Tennis Tutor tennis ball machine!

Part of the Masham Sports Association, the Masham Tennis Club aims to “provide superb subsidized coaching and have developed thriving Junior and Intermediate sections.” Thanks a “Community Chest” grant from a Harrogate Borough Council, the club was able to purchase their new tennis ball machine to aid in perfecting the skills of tennis players.

The new Tennis Tutor tennis ball machine can throw tennis balls over the net at 85 mph and can also change direction and elevation as needed. Paul Barker, Tennis Club chairman said, “It is great fun to use and I’m absolutely certain this will help to improve everyone’s general standards of tennis although I am a little nervous at being beaten hands down by the machine!”

Barker expressed his gratitude to HBC for their generosity with assisting in purchasing the new tennis ball machine and is ecstatic that this small club is becoming even more player friendly. In addition to the new machine, the club has also resurfaced all three of their courts.

The new tennis ball machine will be a great tool in coaching sessions with the club`s professional coach, Chris Worwood.

Tennis Tutor tennis ball machines are manufactured by the company, Sports Tutor, and are famous for being the best-selling tennis ball machines in the world. Their portable machine, the Tennis Tutor, is the number one seller in the US.

Tennis Tutor tennis ball machines are even employed by coaching pros at the ATP training center in Florida.

The new tennis ball machine will no doubt help club players refine their skills and grow as tennis competitors which is the ultimate goal of the Masham Tennis Club. Thanks to a generous grant, the growing club can better serve the needs of their current and future club members.

Since switching to the Juice 100  Wilson BLX tennis racquet, “Vika the Shrieka,” as she is sometimes called, is 12-0, undefeated in 2012. At the Australian Open she beat defending champion, Kim Clijsters, in the semifinals and before that, she won the Sydney International title.

Renaud Vallon, global tour director of Wilson Racquet Sports is extremely happy that Azarenka is promoting the new Wilson BLX Juice 100, “We are tremendously proud of Vika and could not have asked for a better way to showcase the power of our new Juice racket than her performance here in Melbourne.” He went on to say,  “It is phenomenal to see her achieve her goal of winning a Grand Slam title. She has done everything necessary to get to this point in her tennis career and has an incredibly bright future.”

Azarenka`s win with the new Wilson BLX racquet over Maria Sharapova at the 2012 Australian Open in Melbourne has not only given her the WTA world no.1 ranking but gives Wilson more Grand Slam titles than any other tennis equipment manufacturer; more than 500!

Azarenka`s streak in 2012 has the tennis community wondering what will be next for the Belarusian tennis star. Her skills, along with the power of her new racquet, the Juice 100 Wilson BLX, the forecast for her future in the tennis world is extremely bright!
