Gustavo Kuerten to be Inducted to International Tennis Hall of Fame

This past Thursday officials announced that Brazil native, Gustavo Kuerten, has been elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame and will be inducted on July 14th during the ATP Hall of Fame Championships. Gustavo Kuerten is a three-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1.

Kuerten is excited, as any tennis players would be, and will be sharing the induction with former pro, Manuel Orantes, promoter, Mike Davies and the late Randy Snow from wheelchair tennis.

“During my career in tennis I was fortunate to have many victories, but the Hall of Fame induction is a special one,” Kuerten said.

After 34 years since there has been a Brazilian native to enter the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Kuerten is the second to be inducted, the first being Maria Bueno in 1978.

Kuerten feels honored to be elected to the Tennis Hall of Fame, following former tennis stars that have influenced him so much in his career.

“I was inspired by lots of great tennis players, like Maria Bueno and Thomas Koch, two of the biggest Brazilian tennis players, and I have also always greatly admired Hall of Famers including Borg, McEnroe, Sampras, and Agassi…To be honored in the same category as those great players is amazing.”
